New music roundup!

There has been an astonishing amount of good music released this month.

New music roundup!

I already wrote about the biggest album to be released in October, Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl, but the past few weeks have seen an overwhelming amount of new music released. Arguably too much music! So let's go ahead and recap the best and maybe the ones you haven't heard about!

HAIM - I Quit

This might be the one you've heard about! HAIM finally took a break from hanging out with P.T. Anderson and released their first album in five years, which includes a collab with resident ASMR factory Bon Iver. More HAIM is always a good thing.

Motion City Soundtrack – The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World

Those dang Motion City boys have done it again. Returning from their third or fourth breakup with their first album in a decade, MCS have dropped a certified classic on all of us. They also embarked on a tour where lead singer Justin Pierre almost immediately got sick and had to be replaced by Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump, but that's fun in its own way, too. Enjoy the Severance-inspired video above.

Sadlands – Try to Have a Little Fun

A new and extremely great band for all of you to check out.

AFI – Silver Bleeds the Black Sun...

AFI has always experimented with genre, and their latest album is both entirely in keeping with their trajectory as well as their furthest afield, taking their goth aesthetic to its logical endpoint, directly evoking Joy Division. Mostly, I'm just enamored of lead singer Davey Havok's latest look, and I'm enjoying that he's promoting the album by doing interviews with no fucks left to give.

Dial Drive – Dial Drive

Just a fun punk band!

Joker's Republic – The Hand You've Been Dealt

Joker's Republic is a ska-punk band heavily influenced by Wicked Bears, which is my favorite band of the past five years. So basically it's all of my interests in one place.

Stavesacre – (stāvz'ā'kər)

This one is a rerelease. Stavesacre is one of my all-time favorite bands, and their kinda-self-titled album from 2002 has always been my second-favorite album of theirs. What I didn't know was that the band always hated the mix of that album! (It was released on Nitro Records, so that checks out in retrospect.) Over 20 years later, the band found the original board tapes from that album, and sat down and completely remixed and remastered the whole thing. Tooth & Nail Records just released that bad boy on vinyl and put the new version on all streaming services, and it absolutely rips. What a joy to rediscover an album I already loved!
